We all know eating more fruits and vegetables is really good for us. Vitamins & minerals, fiber, antioxidants – all those things your body and mind need to run well for years to come. When you eat local and in-season there's a bonus – the tasty factor is ramped up dramatically!
Here's most of what you'll find when you visit Soons Orchards for produce that's often grown right here by us, or nearby in the fields and orchards of the Hudson Valley.
Apples: Usually year-round, see our variety list for details
Peaches: mid-July - mid Sept., homegrown, picked typically every other day, many varieties of cling (early season) and freestone peaches, yellow and white
**For larger quantities of peaches for canning etc, please call ahead**
Nectarines: late July - early Sept., homegrown
Cantaloupe & Watermelon: homegrown, mid-August til early Sept.
Strawberries: June, local
Cherries, Plums, Blueberries, Apricots: July/August (if available), locally grown
Sweet Corn: Late July/Aug 1 - frost, mid to late-Sept. Homegrown, picked daily (we try, but thanks to Mother Nature, daily availability not guaranteed!)
Summer Vegetables: Aug 1 - frost, homegrown & picked every other day, including: cucumbers and Kirby cukes, eggplant, zucchini, summer squash, tomatoes (incl. plum and heirloom varieties), peppers (green/red/yellow bell, cubanelle, poblano, and various hot peppers), tomatillos

Greens, Root Vegetables & Herbs: summer/late summer/early fall/late fall, depending on availability and items, Lettuce, Spinach, Carrots, Beets, Radishes, Scallions, Turnips/Rutabagas, Cabbage, Parsley
Pears: tba, tough to find local pears anymore...
Garlic: mid-summer into fall/winter depending on supplies, homegrown
Winter squash: late summer – winter, many varieties including acorn, butternut, delicata, spaghetti, milk pan pumpkins, calabasa, buttercup, carnival, hubbard & more!
Pumpkins: Sugar Pumpkins & carving pumpkins too (starting mid-Sept thru October
Additional produce & staples: (usually year-round) Mushrooms (local!), Onions & Potatoes (often local), Avocados, Bananas, Broccoli, Lettuce, Citrus, Brussels Sprouts, etc
