On April 18, 2022, just four days after an unseasonable 82 degree day, Mother Nature hit us with temps in the 20s, with little to no air movement/wind. These lows were not forecast, and we didn't realize the damage til much later. The overall result is big crop losses in our peach and apple orchards.
Once our trees "wake up" in the spring, having big swings in temperature like this are extra dangerous. The blooms coming along or out get frozen and you don't get any fruit as a result.
This means this season our supplies will be limited and variable on both peaches and apples. With peaches it means sometimes we will have none, some, or enough. We know it's a PITA to come in and we don't have what you expect, so do feel free to give us a call to check what the current supply is (845 374 5471). Our awesome crew typically picks every 2 to 3 days (and we only pick what's ready), and will often have an estimate of what we might pick.
For apples, the damage varies by variety. Some are OK, some are not (like McIntosh). We may end up having to buy apples from fellow local growers, which is very rare for us to ever do. Nevertheless, we will maintain our awesome fruit satisfaction guarantee!
We appreciate your support during what is a challenging season (do your rain dance now and often! we need rain for all the crops that are struggling in the heat!). The fruit quality with peaches has been great - so that's good news! And our veggies are doing well, thanks to lots of care and our special drip irrigation lines under our mulch plastic.
Thanks for reading and hope to see you soon at Soons!
